About the episode

Rising from humble beginnings, Alice Anderson first made her name as a teen sensation behind the wheel of a touring car, a popular form of recreational driving in the early 20th century. She was the first woman to drive the Black Spur in Victoria, and her fame grew from the establishment of a garage run by and for women.

In this episode, we’re joined by Sarah Matthews, one of the librarians at State Library Victoria. Sarah wrote an amazing blog post on Alice for the Library’s website, so in this episode, she’ll share the incredible story of Miss Anderson and her motor service.
